Conflict victims summit memo to PM

KATHMANDU: A delegation of the National Society of Conflict Victims met with Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal and submitted a memorandum demanding to address the problems of the conflict-hit at the earliest.

Receiving the memo, Prime Minister Khanal promised to take an initiative to address the problems faced by the conflict-hit people as soon as possible.

The memo has stressed on the enforcement of the Supreme Court (SC) verdict issued on Poush 23, 2065 BS directing the side concerned to return the property seized during the conflict along with compensation to the rightful owners within the three months of the issuance of the verdict. "No one has the right to confiscate the people's property", the memo further adds.

Talking to media after handing over the memorandum, Society Chairman Kul Bahadur Gurung, said, "The Prime Minister has taken our demands positively", and warned of knocking the Court's door again if the demands are not addressed at the earliest.
The memo also talks about the government responsibilities for the welfare of the conflict-hit people seeking the formation of Truth and Reconciliation Commission, putting an end to impunity and guaranteeing of the rights of the conflict-hit.
