Pascoe seeks talks with Indian officials

    KATHMANDU, NOV 29 -
The UN Under-Secretary General for Political Affairs B Lynn Pascoe will hold discussions with senior Indian officials about Nepal’s peace process on December 2.
During Pascoe’s visit to New Delhi, the UN Office has requested appointments with India’s External Affairs Minister S M Krishna, Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao and the National Security Advisor to the Indian Prime Minister Shivshankar Menon. “The requests are there but we have not finalised the meetings yet,” an Indian government source told the Post requesting anonymity. “As today (Sunday) was a holiday, we expect to work on the request by Monday.” The focus of Pascoe’s discussion in India will be to seek a solution to the “stalemated” situation of Nepal, a senior official at the UN office in Delhi was quoted by Indian news agency UNI on Saturday.
Pascoe will arrive in Kathmandu on Dec. 3 and will discuss with top leaders on their efforts towards concluding the peace process and ensuring the orderly withdrawal of UNMIN. This will be Pascoe’s second visit to Kathmandu since the UNSC decided in Sept. to conclude UNMIN’s mandate as of Jan. 15, 2011.
